Makeup on a budget – India

If you currently shop around for makeup, you quickly realise that even if a person is on a budget, they can still pick up some great products without damaging the wallet.

Also, it can be a great excuse to go out and shop for new products for every special occasion citing ofcourse it comes well within your budget. 😛

But truth be told, there are some nifty products you can pick up for a basic day, college, office look.

Budget makeup

Face:

Base:
A great base product would be the Lakme CC cream price at Rs 275, which gives you medium coverage and lasts decently. It is easy to blend, and the convenient tube makes it durable to just pop into your bag without worry. You are only limited by the shades in this in the range, but for the price tag, I think it can be overlooked.

Unless absolutely required, I generally skip on powder to set my base makeup, but if you can’t, then there are good choices from Revlon Streetwear compacts priced at Rs 175 and Maybelline priced at Rs 225. Both have sleek, smart packaging and give 2-3 hours of wear time, post which you would have to touch up.

Cheeks:
A pop of colour on anyone’s cheeks just brightens up the face and if you think you need to invest in an expensive blush then think again. Maybelline has 3 lovely shades of blushes priced at Rs 275, making it a great bargain to have. The only downside is that it doesn’t have a brush or mirror, but the tiny cute packaging makes it easy to slip it into your purse, ready for any occasions or touch ups. This lasted on me around 4 hours post which it started to fade.

Eyes:
The window to the soul should be highlighted and both Lakme and Maybelline have great options and colours. The Lakme Eyeconic kajal is great doubling up as a liner and kajal priced at Rs 149-199 available in different shades. Maybelline has the same options of colours priced as well for Rs 250, making it great choice and are long lasting. While Lakme comes in a twist up pen, Maybelline is in a plastic pencil for which you would need to keep a sharpener handy.

Lips:
And finally you have 2 good companies providing good lipsticks with endless shades for the lips. Lakme enrich lipstick (new packaging) priced at Rs 260 have good variety of shades to match any occasion or mood. Similarly, Revlon streetwear peppy packaging of lipsticks priced at Rs 220 is another good option to select from. Both last 2-3 hours, some shades leaving a pretty stain behind on your lips.

Cheers

  1. Is is sad that I’d turn 22 this year but I have no clue about make up? I think its time for me to buy some basic make-up items but should I start by buying the drugstore makeup or just splurge on high-end brands?

    1. Aww 20’s are the best years, so just enjoy rather than thinking about the number you turned. If you are New to makeup I would suggest start with drugstore, that way you can learn and when you are more set and confident with your makeup go ahead and buy high end brands.
